What we take

Old ID and gift cards

These days our wallets seem to be filled with more cards than cash- and our cards seem to be multiplying! We get the these PVC plastic cards from grocery stores and gyms to schools and libraries.

Fortunately, there is a group that is taking these cards and recycling them, so we are excited to feature PVC plastic cards as a Ridwell category.

Whether you’ve been collecting these up in your wallet or drawers already or will start to now, we are able take any amount of these and get them recycled responsibly!

Earthworks

Earthworks encourages consumers to think about what’s in your wallet: Student ID cards, driver’s license, credit cards, and gift cards. Not only are our wallets and drawers filled with these PVC plastic cards (10 billion enter into circulation each year!), but PVC plastic is also filling up our landfills at a rate of 75 million pounds per year.

Most of these cards can be made from recycled PVC, and Earthworks does just that. They recycle PVC cards and use it to produce an alternative made from 100% recycled PVC material. This card material conserves energy by reducing the demand for new PVC while decreasing landfill volume. The next time you receive or purchase a new ID, member or gift card, ask the retailer if they offer an earth-friendly alternative- another way Ridwell members can help!
