Car seats.

Kids grow fast, and it’s important to keep their car seats current – but once a seat is outgrown, it’s nearly impossible to responsibly recycle.

We're working with partners who will reuse or recycle your old car seats, ensuring they get a safe second life.

This is a pilot program! Thanks for helping us test new and exciting ways to waste less.

Why use Ridwell?

Car seats keep kids safe, and it's important to make sure they're up to date. But what do you do with a seat your kid has outgrown? Car seats are made of mixed materials, and are difficult to recycle.

We're working with two partners: one who can responsibly repurpose car seats in usable condition, and another who will recycle any seats that can't be reused. Instead of sending your old car seats to the landfill, help them embark on a journey to a safe second life!

How it works

1

Sign up for Ridwell Portland's special car seat pickup.

Follow instructions in the invitation email!

2

Add your car seat to your pickup.

Go to your dashboard and add it on just like you would for Styrofoam! The add-on fee will be processed after we pick your car seat up, as part of your next monthly payment.

3

Attach a signed waiver to your car seat.

Download, print, and sign the waiver, and then securely attach it to the hard plastic part of your car seat. If you have multiple car seats for us to pick up, print and sign a form for each seat. You can download the waiver here!

4

Bag up your car seat and put it by your bin.

Put your car seat inside your orange Ridwell Styrofoam bag to keep it clean and dry. Don't worry, we'll replace your orange bag! If you have more than one car seat, please put the second one in a plastic trash bag. We'll pick your car seat(s) up along with your other items on February 20th or 21st.
