Plastic campaign yard signs

Why use Ridwell?

The plastic signs we place in our yards to show support for campaigns, celebrate important events, or advertise real estate can be hard to find a sustainable solution for when their job is done.

We're taking the guesswork out of responsibly recycling your plastic yard signs by connecting them with specialty recyclers who can give them a second life!

How it works

1

Gather your plastic yard signs.

Collect your plastic yard signs, separate them from the stakes, and remove any fasteners like screws or staples. Up to 3 signs per household are included in this pickup. Signs can be a maximum of 3ft wide.

2

Let us know if you'll have extra.

If you have more than 3 signs, please reach out to us at help@ridwell.com.

3

Place your signs and metal stakes next to your bin.

Stack your signs and metal stakes beside your bin by 8am on your pickup day. Please do not bundle or tape them together - just make sure they're neatly stacked in a place that is easily visible and accessible!

What items can we take?

We're taking plastic yard signs and metal stakes - make sure to separate the signs from their stakes! Please clean off any moss and dirt. Signs can be a maximum of 3ft wide.

Partnering with Merlin Plastics

Merlin Plastics, a circular economy-focused plastic recycler servicing the U.S. and Canada, gives used plastic a new life, providing an alternative to virgin resin to be used by plastic manufacturers. Used plastics, like your plastic items collected by Ridwell, are shredded, washed, and pelletized into a post-consumer resin (PCR) at Merlin. Ultimately, PCR is used to make various commercial and industrial products like nursery planting pots, piping, and more. Merlin is committed to circularizing discarded packaging in an environmentally sound, economically efficient, and socially responsible fashion.

Partnering with Trex

Trex is one of the largest recyclers of plastic film in North America, using more than 400 million pounds of recycled plastics - including more than 1.5 billion plastic bags - each year to make its high-performance, wood-alternative decking. A standard 16-foot Trex deck board contains recycled materials from approximately 2,250 plastic bags, and is 95% recycled content.

“Ridwell members give us some of the highest quality plastic we receive from any partner. We are thrilled to be working with such a conscientious and passionate community.“ - Trex, Consumer Education

Partnering with SustainAbility

SustainAbility is a recycling & composting company that combines a passion for the environment with an understanding that every human being has gifts & talents to offer our communities & our planet.  Their team is committed to filling unmet recycling needs in the Denver Metro area by working in partnership with cities, residents, and businesses to divert valuable resources from landfills.  To ensure ethical handling of all materials, SustainAbility's processes are in compliance with R2 Responsible Recycling standards (with an official certification in the works).  They value a diverse workforce, which includes individuals who have intellectual/developmental disabilities, a significantly under-employed segment of society.

Partnering with First Star Recycling

Firstar Fiber (Firstar), dba First Star Recycling, was formed in 1997 with the goal of enhancing Nebraska’s recycling infrastructure. Its Omaha based material recycling facility (MRF) accepts residential and commercial recyclables from throughout the Midwest. In 2023, the company added processing capability to convert hard-to-recycle plastics, such as multi-layered packaging, into feedstock that then can be recycled into a variety of products. This includes Firstar’s own Solution Plastics™, dimensional plastic lumber used by do-it-yourselfers for raised garden beds, benches, fences, patios, and more. Material collected by Ridwell members will be sent to First Star Recycling for the production of their dimensional plastic lumber.
