We're working with partners who will reuse or recycle your old car seats, ensuring they get a safe second life.

What we do with it
Car seats keep kids safe, and it's important to make sure they're up to date. But what do you do with a seat your kid has outgrown? Car seats are made of mixed materials, and are difficult to recycle.
We're working with two partners: one who can responsibly repurpose car seats in usable condition, and another who will recycle any seats that can't be reused. Instead of sending your old car seats to the landfill, help them embark on a journey to a safe second life!

WestSide Baby Car Seat Program
WestSide Baby meets the basic needs of children to promote safety, security & healthy development. They provide free essential items to keep children safe, warm and dry by collecting and distributing diapers, clothing, and equipment throughout Western King County. WestSide Baby receives these donations from the community, which are then checked, sorted and distributed directly to over 100 partner agencies, each working with babies, children and families who are experiencing multiple barriers to accessing basic needs items.
Car seats are a must in keeping our children safe… but they are expensive! For families who are impacted by disproportionate gaps in accessing these essential items, WestSide Baby collects used car seats in order to redistribute to families in need. By employing and working with certified Car Seat Technicians who inspect each car seat with rigorous safety and cleaning point-checks, the team at WestSide Baby is able to redistribute over 1,000 car seats each year.

Car Seat Recycling, one of the longest established groups responsibly disposing of old car seats, operates specialized recycling facilities across the U.S. Through their comprehensive process, car seats are dismantled, shredded, and the constituent materials are segregated. They ensure that the plastic and metal components are efficiently recycled, diverting these valuable resources away from landfills and back into useful production cycles. By providing your old car seats to Ridwell, you are contributing in repurposing these materials, significantly reducing waste, and actively promoting a circular economy.
